The Courier (June 14, 1831): 3.

PAGANINI.—The Morning Post gives the following anecdotes of this distinguished individual:—In company Paganini is remarkably unassuming, yet affable and pleasant, and extremely liberal his praise of other artists. He dined last week at Air. Horsley’s, in company with Hummel, Moscheles, Neukomm, Sir George Smart, Knyvett, &c., and appeared greatly pleased with some of our classical Glees which were performed, and he was particularly struck with the Chevalier Neukomm’s grand Cantata, Napoleon’s Midnight Review, which was sung by Mr. Parry, jun., and accompanied on the pianoforte by the Composer; he said that it was a production that would immortalize any author if he never wrote another note. Hummel and Moscheles performed Duet in their best manner (and all know what manner that is,) during which Paganini stood leaning his hand, like a statue, expressing by his looks the delight he felt….

As every thing connected with this wonderful person [Paganini] must be interesting at this moment, we have thrown together a few anecdotes, &c. respecting him since his arrival in England. He had the misfortunate to lose his teeth sometime ago, and the set he had made abroad was a very indifferent one; on his arrival here he suffered severely from the face-ache, and was introduced to Mr. C. the celebrated dentist, who “soon sent him to heaven,” as he expressed himself by presenting him with a valuable new “box of ivories.” In company he is remarkably unassuming, yet affable and pleasant, and extremely liberal in his praise of other artists. He dined last week at Mr. HORSLEY’S, in company with HUMMEL, MOSCHELES, NEUKOMM, Sir GEO. SMART, KNYVETT, &c., and appeared greatly pleased with some our classical glees which were performed, and he was particularly struck with the Chevalier NEUKOMM’S grand Cantata, Napoleon’s Midnight Review, which was sung [sic] by Mr. PARRY, jun., and accompanied on the pianoforte by the composer; he said it was a production that would immortalise any author if he never wrote another note. HUMMEL and MOSCHELES performed a Duet in their best manner (and all know what manner that is), during which PAGANINI stood, leaning his face on his hand, like a statue, expressing by his looks the delight he felt.
