Reviews

The Morning Post (May 23, 1832): 1.

MUSICAL.

Mr. CRAMER’S CONCERT.—We were happy to see so many professors of eminence rallying round their Leader on Monday night, and so crowded a room, for the benefit of Mr. F. CRAMER. Miss STEPHENS, Mrs. KNYVETT, and PHILLIPS, sang with their wonted talent. Miss CRAMER is greatly improved since we last heard her; she sang Parto, ma tu ben mio, extremely well, and was admirably accompanied on the clarionet by WILLMAN. Mr. PARRY, jun., sang a most elegant ballad of Lord BURGHERSH’S composition, called Bendemeer Stream, which was loudly encored. Mr. MOSCHELES displayed his talents to great advantage on the pianoforte; and Sir. F. CRAMER’S obligato violin, in MARTINI’S Fourth Concerto, was delicious; it was “music finding its way through the ear to the heart.”

Derby Mercury (May 30, 1832): 2.

Mr. F. Cramer’s concert, on the 2lst instant, was both numerously and elegantly attended. His own performance in Martini’s concerto, was a beautiful specimen of genuine violin playing. Miss Cramer is greatly improved in her singing; she sang a song of Mozart’s with great taste, and was admirably accompanied on the  clarionet by  Willman. Parry, jun. introduced a ballad composed by Lord Burghersh, “Benderneer Stream,” which was encored. Miss Stephens, Mrs. W. Knyvett, and Phillips, lent their aid on the occasion, and Moschelles performed in a masterly manner on the pianoforte. Mr. F. Cramer led an excellent band, which performed two sinfonias, by Beethoven and Haydn, in the first style of excellence.
