Reviews

The Morning Post (July 20, 1830): 3.

PREUMAYR’S CONCERT.

The Concert of this extraordinary performer on the Bassoon (Fagotto) yesterday morning was numerously attended. The Vocal portion of it was extremely well sustained by Madames MALIBRAN, STOCKHAUSEN, Miss RIVIERE, DONZELLI, BEGREZ, SANTINI, LABLACHE, and DE BEGNIS. MOSCHELES executed a Fantasia on the pianoforte beautifully; a solo on the Violin by ELIASON, and on the Violoncello by BOUSELOT, also a trio by SEDLATZEK, PREUMAYR, and CIANCHETTINI on the flute, bassoon, and pianoforte, were well performed. Young SCHULZ is an excellent guitar player.

PREUMAYR is the best performer on the bassoon that we ever heard, taking tone, taste, and execution into consideration he makes nothing of a rapid flight from the lowest B flat in the bass to E flat, fourth space in the treble, three octaves and a bass to E flat, fourth space in the treble, three octaves and a half! In his Concertino Militaire yesterday, he displayed great skill and command of his instrument, by modulating into various keys in a very masterly manner; a few bars in D flat, and its relative minor, were exquisitely performed. SPAGNOLETTI and MORI led a select band, and CIANCHITTINI conducted.

The Harmonicon, vol. 8 (August 1830): 353.

M. PREUMAYR’S,

Same Room, Monday Morning, July 19th.This was to have taken place on the 30th of June, but, on account of his Majesty’s decease, was postponed. M. Preumayr repeated here the Concertino Militaire, which pleased so much at a Philharmonic Concert, and now again obtained the greatest and most merited applause. He also took a principal part in a trio for piano-forte, flute, and bassoon, by Brod; and himself finished the concert with “Recollections of Sweden,” in which he introduced several airs of that country in a very clever manner. . This opportunity of again hearing M. Preumayr confirms the opinion we formed at his first performance: his tone is excellent, his execution perfect, and his judgment that of a good musician.
