A NEW ORATORIO

On Tuesday evening last a new Oratorio, by the Chevalier NEUKOMM, called The Ten Commandments, was performed at Mr. MOSCHELES’ house in the Regent’s Park. The principal singers were Madame STOCKHAUSEN; Misses CRAMER, MASSON, and NOVELLO; Messrs. VAUGHAN, GOULDEN, HORNCASTLE, CHAPMAN, E. TAYLOR, and PARRY, jun. A quartett band, consisting of Mr. F. CRAMER, WATTS, MORELL, and NEATE, performed the accompaniments, with the Composer and Mr. MOSCHELES at the pianoforte. 

The composition is one of the very first order; replete with beautiful melodies, rich harmonies, scientific modulations, sublimity of character, and excellent effect. 

Among the select party invited to partake of the exquisite treat were Sir GEORGE SMART, Messrs. ATTWOOD, J. CRAMER, HORSLEY, GRIFFIN, ERARD, STUMPFF, ROBERTSON, WILLES, TOMKISON, MURRAY, STOCKHAUSEN, LYON, &c. &c., who testified their approbation and delight, and complimented the distinguished composer in a manner that must have been truly gratifying to him.

Une société nombreuse et choisie a été rassemblée il y a quelques jours chez M. Moschelès pour entendre l’exécution de l’Oratorio de M. Neukomm, Les dix Commandemens de Dieu. Les solos ont été chantés par Mmes Stockhausen, Masson et Cramer, et par MM. Vaughan, Taylor, Horncastle et G. Smart. Le chœur était composé de vingt-deux personnes ; l’auteur était au piano, et on y avait joint un quatuor d’accompagnement. Parmi l’auditoire on remarquait MM. Clémenti, Cramer, Attwood, Horsley et plusieurs autres artistes distingués qui ont applaudi vivement la belle composition de M. Neukomm. Dans la même soirée, M. Moschelès a fait entendre un trio nouyeau de sa composition ; les connaisseurs qui assistaient à cette soirée se sont accordés à proclamer l’ouvrage de M. Moschelès un des plus beaux morceaux connus dans la musique instrumentale.
