THE Committee and Court of Assistants for conducting the affairs of this charitable Institution, beg leave to address the Nobility and Gentry, their Subscribers, and the Public in general, in behalf of their poor and distressed Brethren; who, after having spent their best days in contributing to the amusement and pleasure of the Community at large, are now, in their age and infirmity, rendered incapable of affording them-selves those comforts which their situation requires. For the purpose, therefore, of ameliorating the severity of want to the aged Musician and Family, this Institution was founded; the Subscription to which is One Guinea per annum, or Ten Guineas for a Life Subscription; for which the person so subscribing is entitled to two Tickets for the Annual Concert, which will take place this year on Friday the 22d of June, at the Opera House in the Haymarket. They therefore humbly solicit the assistance of the charitable and humane, either in subscriptions or donations, in support of a Fund founded on such liberal principles—a Fund which has afforded to poor and deserving claimants, now deceased, the sum of £6014 : 15 : 2, and to their present claimants £7275 :1 : 5, making a total of £13,289 :16 ;7. They are now expending, in relief of their distressed Brethren, nearly SIX HUNDRED POUNDS per annum; but having been considerable losers in their funded property by the change of the five per cents to the fours, and by the death of many of their old friends who were subscribers, they find great difficulty in continuing the usual allowance to their indigent Brethren. They look forward, therefore, with considerable confidence, to a generous Public, and particularly to the Lovers of Harmony.

The Committee have only to add, in the name of themselves and the Society at large, their grateful thanks to their Subscribers, and to the Public in general, for past favours; from which alone the Society has been enabled to succeed thus far in its charitable intentions.

Reviews

The Morning Post (June 23, 1827): 3.

MUSICAL.

A Grand Miscellaneous Concert for the Benefit of the New Musical Fund took place at the King’s Theatre last night. Most of the Vocal and Instrumental Performers of eminence gave the assistance of their talents to the benevolent purpose, and it reflects great credit on the ability engaged to find those in the zenith of their prosperity lending an [sic] helping hand to their less fortunate brethren. The excellent entertainment commenced with the Grand Anthem composed for his MAJESTY’S Coronation by ATTWOOD, and was most ably performed. PASTA sung an Aria from PACINA’S Sposa fidele in her usual splendid manner. CURIONI, TORRI, GALLI, MISSES AYTON, STEPHENS, WILKINSON, FARRAR, Madame PUZZI, and the two Misses CAWSE; SAPIO, PHILLIPS, BELLAMY, E. TAYLOR, and the last, though not least in the cause of charity, DE BEGNIS, all contributed their aid. MOSCHELLES played a Fantasia of his own in a finished style; and little CAMILLO SIVORI, who made so favourable a debut the evening of Madame PASTA’S benefit, performed his Air, with variations, in a manner that elicited the general applause and admiration of the audience. The Selection, on the whole, was worthy of the conductor, Sir G. SMART, and the encores were numerous. The house, we were glad to find, was extremely well filled; and we trust the intentions of the conductors of the fund have been fully answered.—Mr. F. CRAMER led the Orchestra.

Evening Mail (June 25, 1827): 3.

THE MUSICAL FUND.— The annual concert in support this institution was given last evening, at the Opera-house, and was extremely well attended. Among the performers, all of whom their gratuitous services this occasion were—Madame PASTA, Madame PUZZI, Miss STEPHENS, and Signors CURIONI, DI BEGNIS, GALLI, and SAPIO. The novelty of the evening consisted in the performance of a piece on the violin Camilio Sivori, a child only nine years old. His execution it correct and free in a most remarkable degree, and altogether unlike that of a beginner on the difficult instrument he has chosen. The entertainments were such deserve encouragement for their own excellence, and they had moreover the merit of being for the relief a class of persons who, after having contributed the amusements the public during the better part of their lives, find themselves overtaken poverty and distress in their [*] days. If any additional claim to general sympathy were needed, it would be found the statement that the change in the stock where the funds of the society were invested has considerably reduced their income; and the recent death of some of their most generous patrons has cut off larger portion of the donations which they have long been in the habit receiving annually.

The Morning Post (June 27, 1827): 1.

NEW MUSICAL FUND.—The Committee for Conducting the affairs of this Charity, make their most grateful acknowledgements to the Nobility and Gentry, their Subscribers, and the Public in general, for their liberal support at their late Concert; to Madame Pasta, Madame Puzzi, Miss Stephens, Miss F. Ayton, the Misses Cawse, Miss Farrar, and Miss Wilkinson. Signors Curioni, Galli, Torri, and De Begnis; Messrs. Sapio, Phillips, E. Taylor, and Bellamy, Mr. Moschelles, Signor Puzzi, Camillo, Sivori; To Daniels. Mackintosh, Willman, Charles Smart, Monzani, Mariotti, Ling, Harper, Platt, and Atwood [sic]; to Sir George Smart and Mr. F. Cramer, who so ably led and Conducted; to the Young Gentlemen of the Royal Academy of Music; to Mr. Hawes, and the young Gentlemen of the Abbey, and St. Pauls’ Choir, the display of whose excellent talents, enabled them to afford their Subscribers so excellent a treat; and to every Performer, both Vocal and Instrumental, who assisted them on the present occasion.—By order of the Committee.
